Underground tanks save valuable surface space and are completely hidden from view, maintaining the aesthetic of your property. They also keep stored water at a naturally cool, constant temperature, which inhibits algae growth and bacterial activity. Additionally, being buried protects the tank from UV rays and extreme weather conditions.
Yes, we offer a specific range of 'Potable' underground tanks. These are manufactured from food-grade, WRAS-approved polyethylene, ensuring the water remains safe for human consumption. Standard non-potable underground tanks are intended for rainwater harvesting, irrigation, and greywater systems.
Our collection ranges from small 280-litre units up to large 15,000-litre and even 52,000-litre industrial-scale tanks. For domestic rainwater harvesting, the most popular sizes typically range between 1,500 and 5,000 litres.
This depends on the specific tank model and the ground conditions. Some heavy-duty tanks are designed for 'shallow dig' installation and can be backfilled with pea shingle, while others may require a full concrete jacket to protect against ground pressure and high water tables. Always refer to the manufacturer’s specific installation guide.
A telescopic neck is an adjustable sleeve that fits onto the top of the tank. It allows you to adjust the depth of the tank lid so it sits perfectly flush with your finished ground level, whether you are installing under a lawn, patio, or driveway.
Many of our underground tanks can be installed under areas with vehicle traffic, provided they are fitted with a 'car-rated' or 'pedestrian-rated' lid and installed according to specific structural guidelines. Check the product specifications for load-bearing capabilities.
Absolutely. Underground tanks are commonly used with submersible pumps to distribute water for garden taps, toilets, or irrigation systems. Many of our tanks come with optional pump kits and mains water back-up systems to ensure a constant supply even when the tank is low.
In areas with high groundwater, an empty tank can act like a boat and be pushed out of the ground. This is prevented by following specific installation techniques, such as using a concrete base or an anchor system, to ensure the tank remains securely in place.
