30000 Litre AB Air Gap CAT 5 Water Tank
An AB air gap is a non-mechanical backflow prevention arrangement. It consists of a physical gap between the lowest point of the water inlet and the highest possible water level (the weir). This ensures that even if a pump fails or a vacuum occurs, contaminated water cannot be sucked back into the mains supply.
A Category 5 (Cat 5) tank is mandatory whenever there is a risk of severe contamination, such as in morgues, laboratories, abattoirs, or livestock farming. It is also required for hose union points in high-risk areas like bin stores or chemical plants.
Yes, our Cat 5 AB Air Gap tanks are manufactured using WRAS-approved materials and are designed specifically to comply with the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999.
These tanks are typically supplied 'ready-to-go' with a screened weir overflow and a screened vent. Many larger models also include a Byelaw 30 kit and isolation valves as part of our package deals.
While technically possible, it is highly discouraged. To be compliant, the weir must be sized correctly relative to the inlet to ensure it can handle the maximum possible flow rate. Our tanks come pre-calculated and factory-fitted to ensure they pass water authority inspections.
No. Different air gaps provide different levels of protection. The 'AB' air gap (which includes a weir) is specifically required for Fluid Category 5, which is the highest risk level. AA and AF gaps are for lower-risk categories.
The AB Air Gap design includes a rectangular weir in the side of the tank. If the water level rises too high, it will spill out of this weir onto the floor or into a drain, providing a visual warning that the inlet valve has failed while protecting the mains supply.
We stock a full range from 300 litres up to 30,000 litres, including slimline versions for sites with limited floor space.
