IBC stands for Intermediate Bulk Container. These are industrial-grade reusable containers designed for the mass handling, transport, and storage of liquids, semi-solids, or granulated substances. Most consist of a heavy-duty plastic bottle (HDPE) protected by a galvanized steel cage and mounted on a pallet for easy movement with forklifts.
The most standard size is 1,000 litres, which fits the footprint of a pallet. However, we also offer 600-litre and 640-litre 'compact' versions for users with restricted space or those who don't require the full volume of a standard tote.
**New** units are factory-fresh and suitable for any application. **Rebottled** units feature a brand-new inner bottle inside a recycled/inspected steel cage, offering the cleanliness of a new tank at a lower price. **Reconditioned** units are used tanks that have been professionally cleaned and tested, making them the most cost-effective choice for non-potable water or waste storage.
Only 'Food Grade' or 'Potable' IBCs should be used for drinking water. These are typically new or rebottled units that have been certified safe for food contact. Reconditioned IBCs are not recommended for drinking water as their previous contents cannot always be 100% verified for food safety.
Our IBCs come with three main pallet types: **Plastic** (ideal for hygiene and durability), **Steel/Composite** (extremely strong and suited for heavy industrial use), and **Wood** (the most economical option for one-way trips or static storage).
Standard natural (clear) IBCs allow light to penetrate, which can trigger algae growth if water is stored outside. Black or UV-shielded IBCs block light and UV rays, keeping the contents cooler and preventing the buildup of algae, making them superior for long-term outdoor water storage.
Yes, their design is specifically intended for stacking to save warehouse or site space. Most IBCs can be stacked up to 4 high when empty or 2 high when full, provided they are on level ground and you are using compatible pallet types.
Common accessories include **IBC covers** (for weather/UV protection), **heaters** (to prevent freezing or maintain liquid viscosity), and **spill pallets/bunds** to catch accidental leaks and stay compliant with environmental regulations.
