AdBlue is a high-purity urea solution used in SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems to reduce NOx emissions. It is highly sensitive to contamination and slightly corrosive to certain metals like carbon steel and copper. AdBlue tanks are made from compatible materials, typically high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or stainless steel, to maintain product purity.
While there are currently no formal UK regulations mandating bunding for AdBlue (unlike diesel), the Environment Agency strongly recommends bunded (double-skinned) tanks. Bunding provides 110% secondary containment, protecting against expensive product loss and potential environmental clean-up costs if a leak occurs.
AdBlue typically has a shelf life of 12 to 18 months if stored correctly. However, exposure to direct sunlight or temperatures above 30°C can accelerate degradation. To maximize longevity, tanks should be kept in a cool, shaded area and sealed to prevent evaporation.
Yes, AdBlue begins to freeze at -11°C. While the solution can be thawed and used without losing its properties, the expansion during freezing can damage pumps and pipework. For year-round reliability, many of our static tanks can be fitted with integrated heaters and insulated jackets.
We offer a variety of dispensing kits to suit different sites. These include 230V mains-powered pumps for high-volume static use, 12V or 24V battery-powered pumps for mobile bowsers/trollies, and manual hand pumps for smaller drums or IBCs.
Contamination is the leading cause of SCR system failure. Our tanks feature dedicated, closed-loop dispensing systems, integrated filtration, and dry-break couplings. It is essential to only use equipment specifically designed for AdBlue and to ensure the filling area remains free of dust, fuel, and oil.
Yes, we offer a range of 'AdBlue Trollies' and 'Pollicubes' (ranging from 60 to 980 litres). These are ideal for transporting AdBlue in the back of a van or pickup to refuel machinery directly on-site or in remote locations.
No. Standard diesel tanks are often made of materials that will react with AdBlue, leading to contamination of the urea and corrosion of the tank itself. Using a non-compatible tank will void your vehicle's warranty and likely cause expensive damage to the SCR catalyst.
